Since opening in Brentwood, Tennessee in 1987, PCS has been dedicated to helping DIYers and those beginning careers in painting gain practical, real‑world expertise in coatings, surface preparation, and application methods. Gary Sutton’s roots in the industry go back to the 1970s, when he learned the trade firsthand in his family’s paint contracting business.
His career expanded in 1987 when he joined the technical services department of a major paint and coatings manufacturer. There, he developed specifications, guided product selection, and investigated paint failures—work that gave him a deeper understanding of how coatings are formulated, how they protect surfaces, and how to choose the right products for beauty and durability.
A two‑term SSPC chapter chairman and SSPC convention speaker, Gary brings unmatched experience and insight. PCS reflects that expertise, offering dependable support for all your project and training requirements.

Gary Sutton’s expertise is built on a solid foundation that includes:
- More than a decade in his family’s paint contracting business (1972–1987)
- Active participation with SSPC and ASTM in developing industry standards
- Over five years of training with a major paint and coatings manufacturer
- Extensive experience in failure analysis and analytical laboratory testing
- Decades of managerial leadership within the paint and coatings industry
- Mentorship of hundreds of successful paint applicators
- Hands-on contracting experience in real‑world field environments
- Multiple professional certifications, including NACE Coating Inspection; SSPC Concrete Coating Basics & Application Inspection; and credentials from GRACO, SIKKENS, and FLUID MANAGEMENT
- Expertise in manual and computer‑based color matching, as well as paint and industrial coating tinting
- Former ASTM Sub‑Committee Chairman (D01.61 Paint Application Tools) and Executive Committee Member (ASTM D01.90)
